Adult Advertising Policy

Artvoice does not actively solicit but will accept submissions of "adult"-oriented advertising, although it will not knowingly publish advertisements for any illegal goods or services, nor will it accept advertising that it considers to be aggressive to any gender, ethnicity, race, or sexual community. In turn, Artvoice will not discriminate against advertisers based on gender, ethnicity, race, or sexual orientation.

Unacceptable for publication in the Artvoice classifieds:

  • Overt or oblique references to sexual acts
  • Overt or oblique references to erogenous zones
  • Overt or oblique references to bodily fluids
  • Words that suggest physical sexual responses
  • Degrading slang or terminology
  • Insinuations of underage sex
  • Offensive slang or scatological terminology
  • Photographs that depict or suggest:
    • Minors
    • Sexual acts
    • Degrading situations
    • Erogenous body parts (generally, when publishing photo elements, Artvoice prefers photographs taken from the shoulders up, but will consider other photos that do not emphasize erogenous body parts, as per Artvoice's discretion).

Also unacceptable for publication:

  • Strategically placed stars, logos, boxes, or other graphic elements that cheaply camouflage body parts otherwise considered inappropriate for publication.
  • Any wording or visual imagery that Artvoice considers unworthy of publication

Artvoice strongly cautions its adult advertisers against using overly-suggestive language and terminology that may be misconstrued as alluding to illegal activities, such as "full service," "happy ending," or "erotic massage." However, Artvoice recognizes the fluidity inherent in contemporary advertising language, and will not formally restrict wording that it considers to be inconclusive. Due to the inconclusive but unpredictably suggestive nature of adult advertising, dating services, stag dancers, and private party adult advertisers are asked to restrict ad content to personal description, reserving all other details for formal presentation outside the context of Artvoice classified advertising.

Artvoice cannot be held responsible for the activities of its advertisers, nor can it be expected to police its advertisers' behaviors outside the specific context of ad placement. Although Artvoice's privacy policies prevent the disclosure of personal information, Artvoice willingly cooperates with authorities when legally required to do so, and further encourages its readers to report illegal activities vigilantly. Full names and current addresses are required for each account in which adult advertising is placed. Artvoice reserves the right to refuse any advertising for any reason whatsoever, and will edit ad content that does not meet its standards for publication. Artvoice also reserves the right to update its policies at any time, and for any reason whatsoever.
