Pipilotti Rist's work at the Albright-Knox

Three artworks by Swiss-born Pipilotti Rist in the newly christened Gallery for New Media at the Albright-Knox are called video sculpture. They could as well be called video installations. They combine video in unusual ways with framing environments incorporating items from household furniture and appliances to books to tchotchke found objects to fresh flowers.

The 88th Annual Spring Show at the Erie Art Museum

Traveling Route 5 past Brandt, Irving, Silver Creek, Dunkirk, weather being what it was in early May, we drive past bright green fields, sighting spring freshets and high water in the streams and creek beds. The misting rain shrouds the horizon as we stop at one of the native gas plazas that dot the route down to Erie, PA.

Recent work by Patrick Willett at Queen City Gallery

Living and working in Western New York, self-taught artist Patrick Willett creates watercolor paintings, pen-and-ink drawings, and photographs. Willett’s upcoming solo exhibition of recent work will mainly feature his paintings from the last two years. These recent artworks involve an exploration of the boundless energy of our natural environment as well as the decay and transience of existence.

John Dyer at Meibohm Fine Arts

Stepping into the exhibit spaces of the house-turned-art-gallery at 478 Main Street in East Aurora, I am reminded of my early years spent in the rooms of the Phillips Gallery of Art in Washington, DC. Art shown at Meibohm has that same “engaged with the space effect,” with chairs, rugs, and drapes all contributing to the sense of a habited place.
