Nancy Rubins' New Sculpture in Front of the Albright-Knox

A voluminous sculpture of about 60 tangled, aluminum boats has been turning heads skyward since construction started on June 6 at the Albright-Knox Art Gallery. Planted on a lawn in the middle of a looped driveway off Elmwood Avenue, the web of mostly canoes rises like a tree, with watercraft bursting like silver branches atop a stainless steel armature.

A Group Show at the Nina Freudenheim Gallery

Recent weeks of chilly days notwithstanding, this exhibition is, in differing contexts, a summer salad of works dealing with light, placement, and materials in a group show highlighting the most representative examples of the Freudenheim stable of artists, from the photographer John Pfahl to mixed-media artist John Torreano. The exhibit is roughly divided into two categories: systems and patterns.

The History of Buffalo's Public Housing at the Downtown Library

An exhibit on Buffalo’s miserable record on public housing going back to the New Deal era is currently on display at the main branch Buffalo and Erie County Public Library.
