Next story: That Democratic Deal

Rumor Has It...

If gays want to be as miserable as straight people, why stop them?

... That a deal legalizing same-sex marriage in New York State is imminent.

As in, by the time you read this, it’ll be the law. Our sources tell us to expect the measure to pass in the wee hours of Thursday morning—in other words, as this paper is rolling off the printing press—after which the state’s legislators will pack up and desert Albany for the summer.

Here’s the reason for the timing, according to staffers in the offices of several legislators: On Thursday night, President Barack Obama will be in New York City, where the LGBT Leadership Council is hosting a tony fundraiser ($1,250 to $35,800 per plate) for him. Perhaps this explains the recent reports that Obama has been rethinking his position on national legalization of same-sex marriage, which previously he has opposed.

Governor Andrew Cuomo is expected to attend the president’s fundraiser, and as a hospitality gift, he will bring a fresh, new marriage equality act.

At least we hope so, as our cover indicates. If not, well then, Dewey defeats Truman.
