It Won't Be a Gay Wedding

Just a few months ago I shared with you the story of my Facebook proposal from my lifetime partner of 21 years, Michael, my soon to be legally wed husband. I wanted to take a moment to express my deepest appreciation to the Artvoice for sharing our story and a special thanks for all of the well-wishes and congratulatory comments we have received since then. Just the other day we walked into City Hall and purchased our marriage license, and as we sat there, we thought how incredibly blessed we were to not only have one another but to finally be marrying after 21 years together.

We also wanted to express our regret that we were not able to invite everyone we know to share in our nuptials this Sunday, October 23, but we truly appreciate the overwhelming support we have received not only from the GLBT community but others like Senator Grisanti, who responded to our wedding invitation with a personal call from his office congratulating us on our upcoming wedding. He has our vote!

Like many who share similar stories, we say congratulations on your special journey, and as you step into Room 1301 for your marriage license, know that it is our right as an American to be legally wed. So although we are getting married this Sunday, it is not a “gay wedding.” It is a marriage between two men who love one another and wish to express their commitment to one another and for that we are blessed.
