Works by Heather Layton and Karine Giboulo at Buffalo Arts Studio

Global matters are on the minds of both artists in the current Buffalo Arts Studio show. Serious issues that the artists treat seriously but in both cases with a sense of humor.

Paintings by Candace Masters at Arts Sphere Gallery

Since her earliest straightforward paintings of glorious upper torso studies, Candace Masters has taken her interests through an eventful series of images featuring bright, cheerful figuration featuring candy and baby toys. Later, she concentrated on stylized icons in a range of expressive robot figures, work which she continues to exhibit.

Collage and assemblages by Cletus Johnson at Nina Freudenheim

There are a number of compelling reasons to see the current Cletus Johnson exhibition at the Nina Freudenheim Gallery. First and foremost, the work is absolutely spectacular. On view are the most refined, exquisitely edited, and elegantly poetic expressions in the media of collage and assemblage that I have ever seen.

Collages by Joyce Hill at North Tonawanda's Carnegie Art Center

Like walking down any decaying urban street, the words jump off the wall—familiar, common, perverse, rude, instructive, in punctuation, questioning, exclamatory, and abruptly disorderly. It is as if walls are the tablets that carry the messages of the “dis”—dissolution, disease, disorientation, dissatisfaction, and disarray.
