	A meeting on Saturday, held to publicly unveil a nonprofit group’s plans to convert two Buffalo public schools—East High School and Waterfront—to charter schools ended up displaying some other things: the disparity of school-improvement visions and philosophies in the city, and the mistrust that attends these disagreements.

	Up is down, black is white, the lions lay with the lambs: This summer two oft-warring Democratic factions—the one led by Mayor Byron Brown and chief political officer, Deputy Mayor Steve Casey, and the one formerly led by Sam Hoyt and now led by Assemblyman Sean Ryan, Hoyt’s successor—have reached a truce. In recent years the two camps have hammered away at each other at the committee level, fighting for control of the party apparatus in the City of Buffalo, usually resulting in little net change: The factions grow stronger in districts where they were already strong and split races elsewhere.
	Lenihan to Step Down, Again by Buck Quigley
	For the second time in about a year, Erie County Democratic Chairman Leonard R. Lenihan is announcing his decision to step down from the position he has held for a decade. Now the talk among political observers is all about who will fill his shoes.
