Squeaky Wheel's Media Arts Awareness Weekend

From Pip Chodorov's "Free Radicals."

Squeaky Wheel’s first-ever Members’ Show of film/video works and Pip Chodorov’s film history of experimental cinema since World War I times are highlights of Squeaky’s Media Arts Awareness Weekend, October 19-23.

Also scheduled are a New Media Open House & Skill Share, consisting of hands-on, beginner-friendly talks and demos on some of the technical aspects of filmmaking, and a final session on area funding opportunities for electronic media/film artists.

All events are free except the history of experimental cinema film, which is $5 for Squeaky Wheel members, $7 for non-members. The Pip Chodorov film is called Free Radicals, which is a characterization of the artists of the genre as a group. The film features interviews, historical analyses, film clips, and even some entire short films, and considers the influence of such genre notables as Stan Brakhage, Jonas Mekas, and Andy Warhol.

The Member’s Show with screenings of their works is Friday, October 19, starting at 8pm. The Free Radicals film is Saturday, October 20, at 7pm. The New Media Open House & Skill Share is Sunday, October 21, at 3pm. And the funding info session is Tuesday, October 23, at 5:30pm.
