International Women's Film Festival

The International Women’s Film Festival, sponsored by UB’s Institute for Research and Education on Women and Gender, returns for its 16th series with six weeks of Thursday night screenings.

Oscar-Nominated Short Films

Once again this year, the Market Arcade Film and Arts Center will be screening two programs of the short films nominated by the Academy Awards—five live-action shorts, five animated—for viewers who otherwise get frustrated at being unable to handicap a category in which almost no on had seen the nominees. And even if you don’t care about the Oscars, each program makes for a fine dose of short attention span theater.

Midnight Beacon Film Series

Midnight Beacon, a 10-week series beginning this Friday at downtown’s Market Arcade Film and Arts Center, will not include Rocky Horror. Or Plan 9 From Outer Space. Or Pink Flamingos. Or Eraserhead, the traditional midnight favorite that comes closest to fitting programmer Jake Mikler’s palette.
