The Economic Myths of Fracking
by Geoff Kelly
This Sunday, February 26, the Sierra Club’s Chris Burger will deliver a talk called “The Economic Myths of Fracking.” Sponsored by the Food and Water Club/Niagara, and WNY Drilling Defense, the presentation will teach attendees about both the myths and the hype being used by the gas industry and some politicians to convince us that environmental and health risks are worth the money to be made as well as ask the question, “Is it really a contest between the economy and the environment?” Chris Burger is a college instructor who has earned degrees in chemical engineering, economics, and social psychology. He is also the co-founder and chair of the Binghamton Regional Sustainability Coalition and was a former Broome County legislator and chair of Cornell University’s Eco-Justice Project. The talk takes place at the Lafayette Presbyterian Church (865 Elmwood Avenue), 4-5:30pm, and is open and free to the public.
