Please Don't Hijack Our Funds For the Original Bike Path

After recent meetings with the City and Mayor Brown we (the original Rails-to- Trails Committee) were informed of a change to the original, agreed-upon Watts Engineering plan.

Let's Address Global Warming

This year, for the first time in three million years, the average daily concentration of carbon dioxide in the Earth’s atmosphere reached 400 parts per million. Before the industrial age, this concentration varied from 180 to 300 parts per million. In the past century, average global temperature has increased by 1.4 degrees Farenheit. It is estimated that by the end of this century, at current rates of carbon emissions, that average could increase by yet another 7 degrees. If this occurs, sea levels will continue to rise, there will be more drought, volatile weather patterns and damage from ever more powerful storms. The nations of the world must act quickly.

Stop Sexual Harassment in Albany

I love American politics. Unfortunately, it may be degenerating into a love-loathe proposition as of late regarding Vito Lopez’s sexual molestation and harassment of numerous staffers and the subsequent gag orders placed on the victims by Sheldon Silver. The consequence of these actions was that ultimately more staffers were harassed and molested in the future, with the sexual predator not stopped or brought to justice.

No Room in the State Halls

There’s simply no room. Every year, dozens of young men and women arrive in Albany bringing with them unbridled enthusiasm and ideals eager to begin careers in the Legislature; hoping to make meaningful contributions to improving the lives of others. That is indeed noble. They deserve to be encouraged and mentored- not exploited or demeaned.

An Open Letter to Paul Iskalo

The Electric Tower is a beautiful building. It is and will remain a shining example of a fabulous building reborn and adapted to a new and terrific use. It is a gem and a community asset and we thank you.
