Jesus Hates Me

The sense of humor at American Repertory Theater of WNY seems to be decidedly dark. Jesus Hates Me is a comedy by Wayne Lemon that they’re describing as “Jean Paul Sartre’s No Exit hopped up on booze, drugs, sex and a plate of Texas BBQ.” This sounds like a sequel to last season’s Killer Joe. To be specific, Jesus Hates Me takes place in a religiously themed putt-putt golf course called “The Blood of the Lamb” and finds five Texans on an existential quest to find salvation or take the path to eternal damnation…being stuck where they live.”

Directed by Michael Lodick, the production features Matthew Kindley, Priscilla Young-Anker, Anthony Alcocer, Bryan Figueroa, Maura Nolan, and Jacob Kahn, and runs through February 7 at Episcopal Church of the Ascension, 16 Linwood Ave. Call 634-1102.
