Busti Avenue Demolitions

The Public Bridge Authority wasted no time getting the eight Busti row houses demolished. Federal Judge Jeremiah J. McCarthy handed down his decision Friday vacating the temporary restraining order on the demolition plan. The bulldozing started early Saturday morning. By Saturday evening all eight houses, including the historic Wilkeson mansion, were rubble.

Fruit Belt Residents and Homeowners Testify

On Tuesday, the Economic Development Committee of the Erie County Legislature unanimously approved a resolution put forth by Legislator Timothy Hogues, calling on “the leadership of St. John Baptist Church and the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus to reconsider the Economic Opportunity Panel in relation to providing inclusion of nearby residents and businesses of the Fruit Belt and McCarley Gardens in its work.”

Small Talk

I think that guy just shot at me: Last week the Erie County Legislature replaced attorney Jack O’Donnell, a protege of former county Democratic chairman Steve Pigeon, with attorney Chris O’Brien, who has friendly relations with the current chairman, Jeremy Zellner, as a commissioner of the Erie County Water Authority. An O’Brien for an O’Donnell, an attorney for an attorney, one political faction for another, neither commissioner specifically experienced in managing a municipal water system—seems like a wash to me. But online political columnist Glenn Gramigna, a faithful servant on the Democratic Party, uncovered outrage expressed by an anonymous source:
