Last week, the Buffalo Sewer Authority presented residents of the neighborhood south of Forest between Elmwood and Grant with details of an experimental plan to mitigate combined sewer overflows—that is, untreated sewage flushed into area waterways when heavy rain overwhelms the city’s sewer system—by creating a retention chamber with computer-controlled dam gates in part of the system that runs under Bird Avenue.

The Fruit Belt/McCarley Gardens Housing Task Force will present a public hearing at 6:30pm tonight (March 20), at the Moot Center, 292 High Street. The event will include a panel discussion featuring former Common Council President George K. Arthur, VOICE Buffalo President Duane Diggs, Coalition for Economic Justice Organizing Director Micaela Shapiro-Shellaby, and UB graduate student in Global Gender Studies Josh Cerretti.
