Captain Jett Bettington and the Adventures on Planet Earth

And now for something entirely silly, it’s the cartoon antics of intergalactic bumbling Jett Bettington and his equally two-dimensional friends and adversaries. Jason Kaiser and Jacob Albarella have penned this parody of every space travelling adventure ever to hit the comic books. While a little goes for light years in this case, youth oriented Theater Jugend seems to have gauged its audience accurately, under the direction of Drew McCabe, with an evening devised purely to delight.

I’d recount the plot, but I don’t actually remember it. Something about saving the planet, capturing energy in a device that looks like a hatbox with a button on it, and engaging in a romance with an attractive Earthling. I do remember being playfully entertained for a couple of carefree hours. (Keep in mind, I wasn’t allowed to watch Lost in Space as a child.)

Jacob Albarella stars as Jett Bettington with Jamie Nablo as the inevitable love interest, Eric Mowery as the inevitable jerk who seeks to undermine our hero, and D. P. Morris, Lindsay Salamone, Dudney Joseph, Chris Scherr, Matt Fleck, and Mara Westerling as everyone else.

The production continues through May 10 at the ALT Theater (255 Great Arrow Avenue).
