David Sedaris at Talking Leaves

David Sedaris, the perennially hilarious humorist, satirist, and author of such keystones of the boozy canon of dark American comedy as Naked, Holidays on Ice, and Me Talk Pretty One Day, is coming to Buffalo. His visit is sure to be rife with the tales of alcoholism, drug abuse, holiday costumes, and mild obsessive tendencies that comprise his oeuvre, all subjects that make this event an especially good fit for Buffalo.

Sedaris is here to celebrate the paperback release of Let’s Explore Diabetes with Owls, a selection of comic essays that are as funny as his best work (and which selection I purchased immediately upon reading the title). Talking Leaves, Buffalo’s oldest independent bookstore, was chosen as one stop on a unique tour focused totally on independent bookstores—a far cry from the author’s lecture in a giant auditorium at UB. The price of admission is unique as well: anyone wishing to attend need only buy one of Sedaris’s eight books at either of the Talking Leaves locations. The audience will be limited to 125 people, however, so you and yours had better act quickly. An autographing session will follow the reading and will be free and open to the public, though those who have tickets to the event will be given priority.

The event will be at the Talking Leaves Main St. location, 3158 Main St., on Friday, June 6, at 6PM (doors open at 5:30). The autographing session will begin at 7PM. See you there. Anyone got the over/under on people dressed as Christmas elves?
