Stadium Lunacy

Let’s review some recent media reports and see if we can connect the dots.

Erie County, while still under a soft Control Board, wants to go into debt to update Wilson Stadium for $130 million. Then go further into debt for another $750 million on a new stadium which will immediately turn the updated Wilson Stadium into an unused eyesore.

Even Golisano blushed when he commented on the cost to the taxpayers.

Buffalo is approximately the third or fourth poorest city in the US while Erie County remains one of the highest taxed counties in the US.

New York State also has a Governor who is letting the entire country know that they can move their business to New York State/Erie County and receive some fantastic long term tax breaks. Locally, we also have several IDA’s (Industrial Development Agencies) who could give the Governor a lesson on giving tax dollars away.

So connect the dots and see if you can figure out who will be paying for all this. (Hint: look in your mirror).

What we need is someone to divert all the cement trucks headed to the stadium and have then drop their loads on Erie County roads—maybe if the roads were in better shape two of our Buffalo Bills wouldn’t have crashed while drag racing.
