The first two definitions of the word in the online edition of the Merriam-Webster dictionary reference firstly: “The main female singer in an opera company” and then “A vain or undisciplined person who finds it difficult to work under direction or as part of a team.”

BUA seems to take the idea of summer “camp” literally. This is the favored season for Buffalo theater legend and grand diva of the BUA stage, Jimmy Janowski, to put on a dress (or several) and to flip his wig. I’d call Janowski “incomparable,” but that’s one thing he decidedly isn’t.

Molly Smith Metzler’s new comedy, The May Queen, commissioned by the Chautauqua Theater Company and now being performed at the Bratton Theater, has echoes of The Breakfast Club, Grease, Mean Girls, Carrie, Peggy Sue Got Married, and every other story of high school wherein the girls are mean and the guys are shallow and selfish.
