LOCKE & KEY: VOL. 1

WELCOME TO LOVECRAFT

by Joe Hill (Author), Gabriel Rodriguez (Illustrator)

Following a horrific tragedy, the Locke family returns to Key House, their ancestral New England home, to rebuild their lives. Unknown to the family, the property is possessed by the spirit of a malevolent being who will stop at nothing to obtain a series of magical keys which are hidden in the house. This chilling story is written by Joe Hill, the son of fright-master Stephen King. Hill has clearly inherited his father’s command of supernatural mystery, but his ability to create nuanced and believable characters may be the book’s greatest strength. Readers will be effortlessly drawn to the travails of the three Locke children (Tyler, Kinsey, and Bode) as they struggle to heal from their devastating tragedy, adjust to their new surroundings, and survive the disturbing and deadly events unfolding around them. The distinctive and compelling art by Gabriel Rodriguez is alternately frightening and poignant. Rodriguez’s detailed architectural renderings succeed in making the house itself an additional character in the tale. Welcome to Lovecraft is the first of a six-volume series.
