Punk Rock Jesus

Punk Rock Jesus

Sean Murphy (Author/llustrator) Vertigo-DC (Publisher)

What goes together like peanut butter and jelly? Punk rock and Jesus! In a not-so-distant future, a “clone” of DNA claimed to be from Jesus Christ is implanted into a naïve young woman. Becoming the subject of a popular reality television show, her child grows up in relative isolation. His makeshift family is his emotionally fragile mother, a giant ex-IRA bodyguard, the scientist responsible for producing the “second coming” embryo and the scientist’s daughter. Drama ensues and the network rakes in millions televising every minute. Zealots either think the child is the genuine article, needing to be “liberated,” or an abomination deserving eradication. Everyone else watches from the safety of their living rooms, unsure what to make of the whole thing but unable to look away. No one thinks about the feelings of a lonely, confused adolescent with the weight of the world on his shoulders. Will the pursuit of punk rock fame, and the simultaneous freedom and lack of privacy it offers, turn out to be his salvation or his destruction? Rife with social and political satire, Punk Rock Jesus is a biting condemnation of modern Western culture and extremism, illustrated with immense detail and scripted with heart.
