Orgazmo

Orgazmo is a 1997 cult film by Trey Parker about a Mormon boy who goes to the wrong house and winds up as a porn star. I’ve never seen this movie, but seeing a stage re-creation by Theater Jugend was a silly and enjoyable evening’s diversion. Matthew Crehan Higgins plays Joe Young, the Mormon in question. Jeffrey Coyle plays despicable porn producer Maxxx Orbison.

While excellent acting is hardly the point of this sort of entertainment, there are a few standouts. Mr. Coyle, who seems incapable of theatrical restraint, is marvelous as Maxxx. Marc Sacco brings his signature smiling, innocence-in-the-face-of-the-depraved charm to Ben Chapleski and his alter ego “Chodaboy”—he even seems sweet with an oversized dildo protruding from his head. Jenny Marie McCabe is complete hilarious delight as Joe Young’s fiancée; she nails every laugh and unintended double entendre to perfection.

Everybody seems to be having a wonderfully good time in this big-hearted comedy—not intended for children or the prudish. (In fact, if you have ever uttered the phrase, “Now I’m not a prude, but…” this show is not for you.)
