The Activity Vol. 1

THE ACTIVITY VOL.1

Nathan Edmonson (Author) and Mitch Gerads (Illustrator), Image Comics (Publisher)

> Review by Michael Hoffert Jr.

They say that people like to watch people do their job, and do it well. This is why shows like CSI and movies like Ocean’s Eleven are so popular; because they are about characters who are exceptionally good at their jobs, and that can also be found in this military action thriller published by Image Comics. The Activity follows a group of military specialists called Team Omaha as part of the ISA, which cleans up operations botched by the CIA. Edmonson crafts a fast-paced series of stories full of jargon-heavy dialogue and high-stakes action scenes, which are lushly illustrated by Gerads, whose art is atmospheric yet crystal-clear in its storytelling. While it could be easy to let characters fall by the wayside in exchange for pulse-pounding action sequences, Edmonson has created a group of next-gen military specialists that are not only fun to watch, but are also believable and easy to care for. Almost every page of this book will give the reader the sense that they are watching an action thriller directed by Ridley Scott and scored by Hans Zimmer, and if that sounds like your kind of thing, this is a comic not to be missed.
