College is expensive, so take advantage of ways to save money
Paying for college requires some sacrifices. It’s not just about tuition and room and board anymore; colleges are tacking on countless fees for things like programs and transportation that can leave students feeling downright violated.
But that doesn’t mean you have to fall victim to overpriced meal plans or completely give up buying the clothes you love. Check out the list below for tons of great discounts that come with just a flash of your student ID.
Local Businesses
Entertainment
Albright-Knox Art Gallery, albrightknox.org. $8 student tickets ($12 regular price). albrightknox.org

Buffalo Theaters—Nearly every theater in Buffalo offers special student discounts, so check with each one to see what they offer. Also, be sure to check the Artvoice’s On the Boards Theater Listings to see what each theater has in store.

Niagara University students should check out the Preferred Merchant Program at niagara.edu/pmp. There are 10 percent discounts available at tons of local businesses.
UB students can check out livingoffcampus.buffalo.edu/savings for similar discounts through the University Savings Card program.
Student discounts aren’t just limited to in-store purchases. To find the best online deals, sign up for UNiDAYS at myunidays.com. UNiDAYS finds discounts for dozens of top brands, and it also offers exclusive discounts only available with a free UNiDAYS membership.
Some discounts come with a price, like the Student Advantage card. Though it costs $22.50 a year, it’s generally worth the price, seeing as a Student Advantage provides discounts to Amtrak, Topshop, Target.com, and many more. This card is especially helpful for University at Buffalo students: For $45, they can add Student Advantage to a UB card for four years of discounts.
Student discounts aren’t limited to the ones listed here. In fact, many businesses offer student deals that they don’t publicize. This is especially true for local businesses and entertainment, so don’t be afraid to ask.

Food
Lots of chain restaurants offer discounts, but they vary from location to location. Burger King, Arby’s McDonald’s, and Subway are all known to offer around 10 percent off; Dairy Queen often provides discount cards or specially priced meals; and Chipotle sometimes gives out a free drink with any purchase. Domino’s, Pizza Hut, and other chains are also rumored to have discounts. It never hurts to ask!

Adobe—Save up to 60 percent on Adobe applications
Apple Store—All college students can save up to $200 on a Mac or up to $20 on an iPad. Apple also typically offers a back to school deal toward the end of August.
Best Buy—Sign up for Best Buy’s Student Deals and receive exclusive coupons sent to your school email.
Dell—Dell is known for amazing student deals, like the one it’s offering right now: a free 32” TV with the purchase of select laptops.
HP—Sign up for HP Academy and receive up to 20 percent off and free shipping on a purchase
Microsoft Store—Save 10 percent on PC’s, tablets, and accessories
Sony—Sign up for a Student Store membership and get 10 percent off all purchases
Spotify—50 percent off a Spotify premium plan, now just $4.99 a month
Entertainment
AMC Theaters— Receive a discounted ticket price
Dipson Theaters— Western New York locations (except McKinley) offer prices from $7—$7.50
Other
