Fall into Talking Leaves for Some Good Autumn Reads
On Thursday, October 8, and Friday, October 9, Talking Leaves...Books will be hosting a few book events at the Main Street and Elmwood locations. Come out for rich readings, discussions and book signings. It is free and open to the public.
Thursday (10/8) at 7pm, 3158 Main Street store--Nurse-midwife and author Patricia Harman will talk and sign copies of her books, The Midwife of Hope River and The Reluctant Midwife. This event is in conjunction with Midwifery Week and the local ACNM. Patricia Harman has spent over thirty years as a midwife and her novels are highly acclaimed. Set in rural Appalachia, the two memoirs are about her experiences as a nurse-midwife in the Depression era in West Virginia.
Friday (10/9) at 7pm, 3158 Main Street store--Buffalo State writing teacher Joey Nicoletti will read from Reverse Graffiti, which is a collection of poems featuring his Italian-American family, his working class upbringing, along with his passions to love and to escape. The collection is full of pop-culture images to illuminate his story. NYC College of Technology Professor George Guida will also read from new poetry collections dealing with the Italian American experience. George Guida is a poet, fiction writer, playwright and critic. He is the author of The Pope Stories and Other Tales of Troubled Times, two collections of poems—New York and Other Lovers and Low Italian, and the e-novel Letters from Suburbia. He co-edits the literary journal 2 Bridges Review and has a long list of publications in literary magazines.
Friday (10/9) at 7pm, 951 Elmwood Avenue store-- Local author and creative writing teacher Mary Mullet-Flynn, will sign her new novella Cherry Blossom Diaries. The novella is based on the authentic diaries of Deborah Peters, recorded from March 19, 1942 to August 14, 1945, set during World War II. Mullet-Flynn found these real-life encounters fascinating, and she says her favorite part of writing the novella was getting to know Deborah. Mary Mullett-Flynn is a writer and watercolor artist in Buffalo and owns a small shop, Back of the Moon: Gifts & Gallery in Wilson, New York. Mullett-Flynn was featured in the July 2012 issue of Woman’s Day Magazine. She was the recipient of the Business First 2012 Women of Influence Award.blog comments powered by Disqus
