Poets Robert Giannetti and Eva Tihanyi

Outwardly, Eva Tihanyi and Robert Giannetti might not seem to have much in common. There are two strong connections that they share, though: a deep love of poetic expression and a strong connection to the Niagara Frontier.

Tihanyi was born in Budapest, Hungary just before the Hungarian Uprising of 1956. Her parents managed to escape and brought her to Windsor, Ontario. And though Tihanyi’s come a long way in the literary world, her geographic range hasn’t drastically increased. She earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees at the University of Windsor, and moved to Toronto for a few years before settling down in Welland, where she teaches English at Niagara College. She’s penned five books of poetry—A Sequence of the Blood (Aya Press, 1983), Prophecies Near the Speed of Light (Thistledown Press, 1984), Saved by the Telling (Thistledown Press, 1995), Restoring the Wickedness (Thistledown Press, 2000) and Wresting the Grace of the World (Black Moss, 2005)—and recently completed her first collection of short stories, What Can Be Seen on Earth.

Giannetti was born in New York City and later came to this area to earn his Bachelor’s at Niagara University. A life-long businessman, he’s only recently refocused on what is perhaps his true love: literature. A former managing partner of a human resources firm, Giannetti now operates a small rare book business in Atlanta, Georgia. In between, he’s dabbled as an adjunct professor of English at several colleges in the Atlanta area. He authored his first book of poetry, Drawn by the Creek (Cashes Valley Publishing, 2003), from his cabin in the North Georgia mountains.

These two poets’ vastly differing backgrounds and styles promise to make Friday’s reading engaging and enjoyable.
