The Mad Conductor

Get off the couch on Turkey Day (Thursday, Nov. 23) and go see Mad Conductor’s big show at Chuggers in West Seneca (last minute venue change, they were previously scheduled to play at the Showplace Theatre). This Pennsylvania band is all about “space rock,” with a little (or a lot) of rap and ska thrown in. Other bands on the roster are No Service Project, New Kids on the Rock and Boss Tribal. Doors open at 7pm.

James Armstrong

Contemporary blues artist James Armstrong swings by the Lafayette Tap Room on Friday (Nov. 24), for a show that starts at 9:30pm. Growing up with musicians for parents gave Armstrong the music bug at an early age, as well as a strong foothold that has taken him up through the ranks at a steady pace. Armstrong has toured extensively, both solo and with artists like Albert Collins, Coco Montoya, “Big” Joe Turner and Smokey Wilson. He’s probably best known for his 2001 release Got It Goin’ On (Hightone Records), a recording whose name speaks for itself.

One World Tribe

Whether it’s Funk, Hip Hop, Jazz, Latin, Reggae or World Beat you want, One World Tribe has got the sound down. With an arsenal of expert cover tunes blending with original music as part of the repertoire, One World Tribe is known in Buffalo to be the ultimate party and dance band —a perfect show for the day after Thanksgiving. See them at Nietzsche’s on Black Friday (Nov. 24) for a 10pm show.

Aediem

Since he left the band Klear, A.D. Lewis has been working with several members of other local bands to create something new. The result is Aediem, a combination of pop, funk and rock incorporated into one sound with Lewis as the frontman. The band is made up of former members of Lucid and Shake the Hazy as well as Klear, giving them a good amount of diverse experience. Aediem plays its first show this Friday (Nov. 24th), at 8:30pm at the Water Street Landing in Lewiston with Picture This.

Jason Collett

SInger/songwriter Jason Collett, formerly of Broken Social Scene, comes to Buffalo this Saturday (Nov. 25) to open for the Sam Roberts Band at the Town Ballroom. Collett’s second solo release for the Arts & Crafts label is titled Idols of Exile, and features guest spots by his former BSS bandmates, as well as by Feist and members of Do Make Say Think, among others. The show is set to start at 8pm.

Converge

The Buffalo hardcore scene is in for another killer show this Monday (Nov. 27) when Converge, going strong after sixteen years of musical mayhem, hits Buffalo with equally-acclaimed bands Modern Life is War, Some Girls and Blacklisted. This cohesive lineup is sure to satisfy a wide array of metal, punk and hardcore tastes, encouraging those fans who are only familiar with one or two bands on the bill. Converge is touring to promotie their latest release, No Heroes (Epitaph). Doors open at 6pm at the Showplace Theater
