The Family Values Tour

Local guitar player Billy Rufrano comes through town with the band Through You on the Family Values Tour, making a stop at Darien Lake on Friday (August 3). The band recently finished a tour in Japan. Also on the bill at Family Values this year are headliners Korn and Evanescence with Atreyu, Flyleaf, Hellyeah, Trivium, Neurosonic and Droid playing the Mainstage and Five Finger Death Punch, Invitro, Twin Method, Through You, bloodsimple, the Last Starfighter, the Vanished, the Changing and Otep on the Guitar Hero II 2nd Stage. The whole shebang starts up around 3pm.



LARZ, Triggerlust, and Rhubarb

This Saturday (Aug. 4) at Nietzsche’s the night begins with LARZ, flying solo and rawking out an acoustic set. Then, New York City-based Triggerlust, hailing from Brooklyn, will take the stage with their melodic fusion rock, heavily influenced by the sounds of the 60s and 70s. Finally, local trio Rhubarb will finish up the show with their new sound, in a long-awaited return to the Nietzsche’s stage. The show begins at 10pm.



Art in the Park

The Charles E. Burchfield Nature & Art Center hosts the fifth annual Art in the Park weekend on Saturday (Aug. 4) and Sunday (Aug. 5), from 10am to 5pm both days. This is the BNAC’s 5th year showcasing the works of Western New York’s finest artists and artisans, and includes music, food and fun for the whole family. Foundry Field Recordings

The Foundry Field Recordings come to Mohawk Place on Sunday (Aug. 5). This summer tour is in support of Fallout Stations, the companion EP to the recently released full-length Prompts/Miscues (Emergency Umbrella Records). Foundry Field Recordings have played with Spoon, Super Furry Animals, Dresden Dolls, Aqueduct, the Rosebuds, Magnolia Electric Co. and Deerhoof among others. They also had a successful set of shows at this year’s SXSW music festival with their brand of super-textural lo-fi. After the tour the band plans to return to the studio to start work on their second full-length, set for release in March ‘08. Sunday’s show begins at 8pm, with Ice Cream Social and the Magi Chippie



The Glenn Miller Orchestra

Back in those halcyon days of World War II, when the USA was claiming its title as the undisputed global champion of freedom, the young people who went on to be known as the Greatest Generation marched for the red, white and blue—and they swung to the music of the Glenn Miller Orchestra. Artpark’s swing series concludes its second consecutive season on Monday (August 6), with two performances (2pm & 8pm) by the stellar big band that carries on this powerful, sexy music. After creating an unforgettable body of work that includes staples like “In the Mood,” “String of Pearls,” and “Moonlight Serenade,” is it any wonder that Miller’s untimely, heroic and mysterious death coincided with the start of the baby boom?



The Strange Noize Tour

The Real Tech N9ne comes to the Town Ballroom this Tuesday (Aug. 7), on the Strange Noize Tour. The tour also features the Kottonmoth Kings, Blaze, Hed (pe), Blaze Ya Dead Homie, Sub Noize Souljaz and Critical Bill. The Kansas City rapper has sold out solo shows and group tours from New York to L.A. in his 15 plus years of performing, treading a steady track to rap superstardom and sharing the stage with 2pac, Jurassic 5, Twizted and Insane Clown Posse. His last album is 2007’s Misery Loves Kompany (Strange Music), and he’s at work on Killer, to be released in 2008. the show starts at 7pm.
