The Glenn Miller Orchestra
Back in those halcyon days of World War II, when the USA was claiming its title as the undisputed global champion of freedom, the young people who went on to be known as the Greatest Generation marched for the red, white and blue—and they swung to the music of the Glenn Miller Orchestra. Artpark’s swing series concludes its second consecutive season on Monday (August 6), with two performances (2pm & 8pm) by the stellar big band that carries on this powerful, sexy music. After creating an unforgettable body of work that includes staples like “In the Mood,” “String of Pearls,” and “Moonlight Serenade,” is it any wonder that Miller’s untimely, heroic and mysterious death coincided with the start of the baby boom?
