Follow That Story: Tabu, nee Blue Mirage

Follow that story: Tabu, nee Blu Mirage

Last week we reported that Mayor Byron Brown had vetoed the issuing of a dance restaurant license to Blu Mirage on Main and Ellicott Streets. The veto was a reaction in small part to the owners’ operating outside their licenses and in large part to a brawl that took place there on February 10, a fight that took 30 police officers to contain.

Here’s an update: Blu Mirage has transformed itself into Tabu, a gay club that hosts drag shows. While this is likely to cure the club’s violence problem, other issues remain: Tabu has a valid liquor license but it doesn’t have an exotic cabaret zoning variance, which is required for drag shows. The owners go before the Zoning Board of Appeals on March 19 to try to get one.

Meanwhile, the club is open and the DJs are spinning three nights a week.
