The Found - Self Titled

The Found

The Found

(Self-released)

The Found
It’s loud. It’s chunky, sneering, glorious rock and roll as it was meant to be. Pairing nervy garage bombast with the heaviest blues rock the law will allow, the Found tear it up across the 10 cuts on a self-titled debut that sets them apart from the sea of Sabbath and Stooges wannabes.

The quartet—comprising twin guitar attackers Harold Pollinger and Bryan Mecozzi, bassist Stephen Carveth, and drummer Ben Hayes—drown in their attack with maximum riffage and skull-shattering, pounding rhythm. Pollinger and Mecozzi trade off vocal duties to maximum effect; the call/response on “Sadie” and “Sugar & Spice” boils over with equal paranoia, aggression, and lust to a dance of serpentine lead guitars. “Country Dance” sounds like Beggars-era Stones meets AC/DC. The 11-minute closer “Ice Caps” finds the Found ending the affair with an expansive, psych-blooze freakout complete with hypnotic organ.

This record is likely to go down as one of 2008’s best local releases. My only complaint: that it’s not on vinyl.
