Brooklyn based singer/sonwriter Jennifer O’Connor comes to Soundlab on Saturday (Jan. 12), for a show at 9pm. She’s an addition to Matador Records, which produced her 2006 album Over The Mountain, Across The Valley And Back To The Stars. Her third full-length recording, Over the Mountain has the freshness of a debut, acclaimed by TheVillage Voice as “one of the best albums of the year.” TheVoice also compared her to Elliott Smith and Liz Phair, though without the “primping, preening” of Phair or the “sad-sack whining” of Smith. Citing varied influences like Aimee Mann, Destroyer, Dylan, Petty, Jay-Z and Kanye, O’Connor maintains an unusual and unique appeal. Jax Deluca opens the show.
