SEVEN NATIONS

Not many musicians can boast that their work has reached beyond the limits of our atmosphere, but thanks to Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield, Seven Nations’ melodic, upbeat acoustic sounds have. It’s a true testament to the band that Hadfield—the first Canadian to walk in space—chose their CD among the very few personal items he was allowed on his shuttle mission. Seven Nations’ success might be a result of their lively Celtic sound, thoughtful lyrics, or the way their music is united by a common thread that runs through their songs and albums. The band’s origins date back to their first show in 1993, when they were known as Clan Na Gael (translated as “Family of the Gaels”). Fifteen years later, the band has changed names, lost and added members, toured 49 out of the 50 United States, released multiple records, and achieved some pretty reputable honors. The group recently performed with the Grammy award-winning Atlanta Symphony Orchestra, played at the televised opening ceremony for the New York Marathon, and created the music for the nationally aired Extreme Sports theme. Unlike some other commercially successful groups, Seven Nations plays diverse venues, from small bars to huge concert halls. This is a great chance to see a high-profile act in a cozy pub atmosphere.
