Artie Award Winners

THE ARTIE AWARDS 2008

Artvoice presented the 2008 ARTIES at the Town Ballroom this past Monday, June 2. To be eligible for an Artie, an artist must live and work in the Buffalo area, a theater must produce work localally, primarily with local artists. The event was a benefit for Benedict House, which provides support services for individuals living with AIDS. The original list of nominees can be found here. Thank you to everyone who participated!

In addition to the categories listed below, the Arties include the Katharine Cornell Awards, given to visiting artists for outstanding contributions to the theater season. This year, Katharine Cornell Awards will go to playwright Tom Dudzick for his play, Don’t Talk to the Actors, as well as to actor Denny Dillon for her performance in that play at Studio Arena Theatre. Actor Jolie Garrett will be recognized for his performance in the Shakespeare in Delaware Park production of Othello. Outstanding Buffalo debuts will be announced at the Artie event, and this year’s ten best-dressed, selected by the incomparable Jimmy Janowski, will be selected that night.
