Infringement '08 |
Infringe Yourselfby Anthony ChaseWith 11 days and over 300 events, the Buffalo Infringement Festival may seem difficult to navigate, but it’s not. Basically, there are two ways to do it—with a meticulous plan or haphazardly. Each method offers rewards. |
News |
Expect Drilling; Hope For Windby Bruce FisherWhen Al Gore called last week for a crash program of developing wind energy, among those who stood up and saluted was billionaire oil driller T. Boone Pickens. Pickens has already invested over $2 billion in a large wind-turbine farm on the arid plains of Texas, and pledges much further work on bringing investors together to help him install thousands more turbines—at about $1 million apiece—throughout the Plains states. |

The House Plays Two Cardsby Bruce JacksonThe Seneca Nation of Indians’ battle against opponents of their downtown casino was fought in two courts this past week—one a court of law, the other the court of public opinion. |

News of the Weirdby Chuck ShepherdPolice, including SWAT officers, were called to an apartment in Mesa, Ariz., in June after neighbors reported a fight between a man and woman that included yelling and breaking things inside. When they arrived, they found only a 21-year-old man, conducting the fight by himself, alternating a high-pitched voice with a low-pitched one. He was referred for a medical exam. |
Artshorts |
Assembled Meaningsby Gerald MeadThe group exhibition currently on view at Artspace Buffalo Gallery is compelling for a number of reasons. First and foremost, it is an exceptional body of work. The second exhibition to be presented in this newest exhibition venue in Buffalo, it also represents an optimum use of this unique space. Lastly, the majority of the artists included have never shown in Buffalo; in fact, you are more likely to come across their work in New York (specifically in Chelsea), Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, or an international art fair. |

Ask AnyoneWeddings are not much fun for me since I quit drinking. I’m not in AA or anything; I just quit because I thought I needed to. I don’t make a big deal of it and don’t want anyone else to either. Now I’ve got a big family wedding coming up, and everyone’s going to be drinking and pushing drinks on me. I don’t want to lie about not drinking but I don’t want to invite curiosity either. Part of me wishes I didn’t have to go, but I do. How do I handle it?? |
