Jucifer (Friday, July 25)

Formed in 1994, Jucifer predated the two piece rock band idea by many years. Although they are armed with only a guitar and drums, the band is so schizophrenic in nature that it’s difficult to really explain what they do. From soft acoustic pieces to orchestral whims to heavy assault metallic grooves, Jucifer can sound both pretty and ominous. After working with two different ill fated record labels, the band signed to ultra hip metal label Relapse, which reissued If Thine Enemy Hunger and has just released their amazing double album, L’autrichienne, which has been receiving rave reviews for its moments of beauty and intesnity. Live, the band has forged a reputation as one of the loudest imaginable. Playing in front of a full wall of amps, the shows are mind numbing events, where sound just envelops the audience. Jucifer performs at Mohawk Place on Friday (July 25), at 10pm. Chylde and Sonorous Gale open the show.
