Let Them Eat Soup

District attorney candidate offers voters Bills games and pasta fazool

Speaking of Frank Sedita III.

A couple weeks back we gave this scion of the storied political clan a gentle ribbing for a campaign flyer that—instead of emphasizing qualifications and policy psoitions, as did the flyers of his opponent Diane LaVallee—featured the Buffalo Bills 2008-2009 game schedule.

We haven’t see newflyers from LaVallee or from the other Democratic candidate, Ken Case. But it turns out utility is Sedita’s byword in campaign literature. His latest flyer features his name and photo, an appeal to vote in the Democratic primary on September 9, a list of his endorsements (Democratic, Conservative, and Independence Parties), and—front and back—a recipe for pasta fazool.

(Sedita also offers the alternate name “Pasta e Fagoli,” which is more correctly spelled “pasta e fagioli.” But that’s quibbling.)

The recipe is pretty standard, relying on cans of butter beans and garbanzos. On the back of the flyer is a note: “There’s an additional ingredient guaranteed to make this the best Pasta Fazool you’ve ever tasted! This secret ingredient will be revealed if you visit Frank’s website, www.SeditaDA.com.”

The secret ingredient is a rind of parmesan cheese, which you simmer with the soup.

We didn’t have time to whip up a batch in the AV test kitchen. We’re sure it’s delicious. But how will that cheese rind help edita to retain top talent in the DA’s office? Will the chopped celery stalks help arrest what Buffalo Police officers describe as a rise in violent crime? And what am I supposed to make of a recipe that doesn’t tell me when the Bills are paying Miami at home?
