AIDS Community Services Big Kahuna bike covers the waterfront this weekend
by Bryan Whitley-Grassi
You’ve ridden on an ordinary bicycle, probably a tricycle, and maybe even a unicycle. But what about a bicycle built for 30? Eight feet wide, 30 feet long, with seating for 30 pedal-pumping participants, the Big Kahuna Ride will raise eyebrows and funds for HIV/AIDS services in our community.
The Big Bike is making its debut in the US, rolling into Buffalo on Thursday, September 18, as AIDS Community Services of Western New York launches the very first Big Kahuna Ride, a five-kilometer ride exclusively for corporate CEOs, business, and community leaders, and anyone interested in a challenge to support HIV/AIDS services. Each Big Kahuna is asked to raise a minimum of $500 in pledges from friends, family, and coworkers. The bike and its participants will travel along Buffalo’s waterfront, beginning and ending at Shanghai Red’s, followed by an exclusive reception for Big Kahuna riders on the waterfront, including gourmet food and beverages. Registration begins at 2pm and the ride kicks off
promptly at 3pm.
The Big Kahuna Ride is a great way for organizations to showcase their generosity and gain media attention through a unique community event. It’s more than just a bike and it’s more than just a ride, because when the Big Bike rolls through Western New York, it brings with it hope for thousands in our area affected by HIV/AIDS.
