Vonetta Rhodes, Marquis B. Burton, One World Tribe

Just Buffalo kicks off its Interdisciplinary Performance Series at the Tralf

On Saturday, October 11, Just Buffalo presents an inspired mix of words and music at the Tralf Music Hall (622 Main Street / 852-2860 / tralfmusichall.com).

First, the words: Vonetta Rhodes, a.k.a. the Fly Poet, is a veteran on the city’s spoken word scene. She has lifted audiences at the Juneteenth and Mamapalooza festivals, as well as at the Albright-Knox’s Gusto at the Gallery—really just about every venue in which poetry is spoken.

Marquis B. Burton, a newer presence on Buffalo’s literary landscape, has nonetheless grown ubiquitous in recent months. Known by the moniker Ten Thousand—because, he says, “I always have ten thousand poems in my heart”—Burton has been a featured artists at Spoken Word Sundays at Allen Street Hardware.

As for the music, One World Tribe needs little introduction. The band has been performing a vivacious mix of Latin music, reggae, R&B, and funk since 1994. The band’s members hail from Africa, Jamiaca, and Puerto Rico, as well as the United Stes, so they come by that multicultural groove honestly.

The entertainment begins at 8pm. Tickets are $5, $3 for students and seniors. Just Buffalo members get in free.
