POULTRYGEIST: NIGHT OF THE CHICKEN DEAD—Someone you know probably worked on this Troma gross-out horror comedy shot in Buffalo in 2005, about a chicken restaurant ill-advisedly built on a graveyard. Directed by Lloyd Kaufman (The Toxic Avenger). Reviewed this issue. Market Arcade

RACHEL GETTING MARRIED—Jonathan Demme (Silence of the Lambs) goes the Dogma route for this indie drama starring Anne Hathaway as a woman trying to get back into her family’s good graces after a decade in and out of rehab clinics. Co-starring Debra Winger, Bill Irwin, Rosemarie DeWitt, and, this being a Jonathan Demme film, a lot of musicians. Reviewed this issue. Amherst, Regal Quaker, Regal Transit

SOUL MEN—In what sounds like an adaptation of Neil Simon’s The Sunshine Boys, Samuel L. Jackson and the late Bernie Mac star as soul singers who agree to a reunion performance even though they haven’t spoken to each other in 20 years. Co-starring Sharon Leal, Adam Herschman, Sean Hayes, Isaac (no relation) Hayes and Vanessa del Rio. Directed by Malcolm D. Lee (Undercover Brother) Flix, Market Arcade, Regal Elmwood, Regal Hollywood, Regal Quaker, Regal Transit

WHAT JUST HAPPENED?—Barry Levinson (The Natural) directed this adaptation of producer Art Linson’s book about the comic struggles of a film producer (Robert DeNiro) to deal with the daily insanity of the movie industry. With Bruce Willis, Stanley Tucci, John Turturro, Kristen Stewart, Catherine Keener, Sean Penn, Michael Wincott, and Robin Wright Penn. Reviewed this issue. Eastern Hills

ETC:

BOTTLE SHOCK—Based on the true story of the famous (or, if you’re a French vintner, infamous) 1976 Paris wine tasting that was won by (sacre bleu!) a California wine. Starring Chris Pine, Alan Rickman, Bill Pullman, Freddy Rodríguez, Dennis Farina, Eliza Dushku, and Miguel Sandoval. Directed by Randall Miller (The Sixth Man). Sat 8pm; Tue 7:30pm. Fredonia Opera House, 9 Church St. Fredonia (716-679-0891) www.fredopera.org

JAIL BAIT (1954)—A gunman forces the father of his juvenile partner to use his skills as a plastic surgeon to give him a new face. Edward D. Wood Jr.’s second film isn’t as hysterically bad as Glen or Glenda or Plan 9 from Outer Space, but it’s still a lot of fun to watch, for the minimal set design, the maddening piano/guitar score, and the lead performance of Timothy Farrell, one of the great bad actors of all time. Fri-Sat 9pm. The Screening Room, Northtown Plaza in the Century Mall, 3131 Sheridan Drive, Amherst 837-0376

KATYN (Poland, 2007)—Local premiere of the Oscar-nominated film about a long-hidden incident in 1940 in which thousands of Polish prisoners were slaughtered by their Soviet captors. Directed by Andrzej Wajda (Man of Iron, Danton). Sun, 7pm. Palace Theater, 31 Buffalo Street, Hamburg. http://www.canisius.edu/polish/events.asp

PARIS, TEXAS (1984)—Wim Wender’s infinitely sad and moving film, from a story by Sam Shepard, starring Harry Dean Stanton as a man struggling to regain the memories of his painful past. The beautifully photography by Robby Müller is as integral to the film as any of the characters or dialogue, making this, like many of the films presented at the Buffalo Film Seminar, one that you haven’t really seen unless you’ve seen it on the big screen. Co-starring Nastassja Kinski, Dean Stockwell, and Aurore Clément. Tues 7 pm, Market Arcade Film and Arts Center, 639 Main St. (855-3022).

VICKI (1953)—Low-budget remake of I Wake Up Screaming, with Elliott Reid as the homicide cop who becomes personally obsessed with solving the murder of famous Manhattan model Jean Peters. Co-starring Jeanne Crain and Richard Boone. Directed by Harry Horner, beteer known as the Oscar-winning production designer of The Hustler, The Heiress and They Shoot Horses, Don’t They? Fri-Sat 7:15pm. The Screening Room, Northtown Plaza in the Century Mall, 3131 Sheridan Drive, Amherst 837-0376
