ETC:

IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE (Hong Kong, 2000)—In Hong Kong circa 1962, a middle class man and woman who learn that their spouses are having an affair consider doing the same. Winner of a special award for technique at Cannes, this film by cinematic iconoclast Wong Kar-wai (Chungking Express) perpetually places the viewer in the position of voyeur, looking at Tony Leung Chiu-wai and Maggie Cheung Man-yuk through doorways, windows, mirrors, etc. Tues 7 pm, Market Arcade Film and Arts Center, 639 Main St. (855-3022).

IRAQ IN FRAGMENTS—Oscar nominated documentary showing the daily lives of three Iraqi families—one Shiite, one Sunni, one Kurdish. Directed by James Longley (Gaza Strip). Student Union Theater, UB Amherst Campus.

JAIL BAIT (1954)—A gunman forces the father of his juvenile partner to use his skills as a plastic surgeon to give him a new face. Edward D. Wood Jr.’s second film isn’t as hysterically bad as Glen or Glenda or Plan 9 from Outer Space, but it’s still a lot of fun to watch, for the minimal set design, the maddening piano/guitar score, and the lead performance of Timothy Farrell, one of the great bad actors of all time. Fri 9pm. The Screening Room, Northtown Plaza in the Century Mall, 3131 Sheridan Drive, Amherst 837-0376

MON FRÈRE SE MARIE (Switzerland, 2006)—Comedy about a sundered family pretending to like each other for a weekend for the benefit of the visiting mother of the Vietnamese child they adopted. Mon, 7:30pm. Hallwalls, 341 Delaware Ave. (854-1694) www.hallwalls.org

NOSFERATU (Germany, 1922)—The first and still one of the eeriest adaptations of Dracula will be accompanied by live original score performed by the Alloy Orchestra, a three-man ensemble that employs electronic synthesizers alongside such objects as musical saws and toilet seats and whom Roger Ebert has called “The best in the world at accompanying silent film.” Sat, 8 pm. Springville Center for the Arts, 37 North Buffalo Street, Springville (592-9038)

PSYCHO (1960)—Anthony Perkins, Janet Leigh, Vera Miles and Martin Balsam in the Alfred Hitchcock thriller that ranks pretty high on the list of movies that you don’t need me to tell you anything about. VICKI (1953)—Low-budget remake of I Wake Up Screaming, with Elliott Reid as the homicide cop who becomes personally obsessed with solving the murder of famous Manhattan model Jean Peters.
