Week 4: Abominable Killer Snowmen vs. Peanut Brittle Satellite

CONGRATULATIONS, A Hotel Nourishing! You collected the most votes this past week, so you proceed to our live quarterfinal at Nietzsche’s on December 26. One of the two bands this week will become the fourth band to win a spot on that bill. Up this week, we have Abominable Killer Snowmen vs. Peanut Brittle Satellite.

How can I, as a music fan, participate, you ask? Simple. Start with our selections below for week three - visit and bookmark boom.artvoice.com to check out last week's bands, and watch the contest as it moves forward. Each week, simply place your vote for your favorite. The power, as we just learned on November 4, is in the hands of the people. Bands are encouraged to get out the vote any way they can short of stuffing the ballot box. Our IT guy is very savvy, and he’ll be monitoring the votes more closely than an election lawyer in Ohio. If you’re caught cheating, you can be disqualified. And there’s nowhere to appeal our decision.

The rewards for the winners are great. By next week, one of the two bands below will have collected enough votes to proceed to our first live quarterfinal—scheduled for December 26 at Nietzsche’s. There, each audience member will be issued one ballot, which they can use to vote for their favorite band. At the end of the night, one band will emerge victorious. They will receive a recording package from Audio Magic, and 100 CDs of that recording from ESP CD & DVD Manufacturing. In addition, they will be profiled on WBFO as part of their “Buffalo Avenues” program. We’ll do this four times.

The four winners of our live quarterfinals will face off in our Grand Finale in May. The winner that night will win a slot on WBFO’s Wednesday night concerts live from Allen Hall, a video produced by Artvoice, and a nice cash prize as well.

We’re happy to present this contest with the help of our great sponsors: Audio Magic, ESP, WBFO and Neitzsche's. They all play a vital role in making our town a hotspot of original music.

But we can’t make msic without u. May the best band win.

When did the band form? We originally started in 2005 as a jam jazz band for a school battle of the bands at Niagara Wheatfield. Eventually some of the members of that faded and we started our ska band. Since May of 2007 we have been doin shows in our hometown area of Niagara Falls, but mostly doing shows in Buffalo.

You might like us if you like: Catch 22, Streetlight Manifesto, Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution, Less than Jake, Reel Big Fish, Five Iron Frenzy, Squirrel Nut Zippers, Mustard Plug

List of recorded releases:

“Walk The Walk” demo (2008)

Best show ever played: Our best shows are usually the ones we do at our high school battle of the bands. Every time before we go on, all you can hear in the crowd chanting “AKS” it just pumps you up so much and makes you wanna play an insane show. Other than that we played a show at Club Infinity with a band that’s a giant influence to us, Catch 22. It was an amazing show and nothing went wrong, everything for that one was perfect.

Why you should win the Artvoice.com Online Battle of Original Music: We deserve to win BOOM! because we aren’t like most other bands. Ska really isn’t that big of a genre to most people now and we’re trying to save this city from losing out on it. Pretty much something different that everyone seems to enjoy no matter what their music tastes are.

When did the band form? We formed through a gelatinous of peanuts and emulsifiers in the fall of 2007 that was home brewed in Buffalo.

You might like us if you like: Mahavishnu Orchestra, King Crimson and Frank Zappa

List of recorded releases: “Incandescent Light” EP

Best show ever played: Our CD release show at Nietzsche’s on June 7th, 2008 with Armcannon.

Why you should win the Artvoice.com Online Battle of Original Music: With only one year under our belt, we’ve played over 30 shows including various music festivals in upstate NY including a number of charity shows. We were recently nominated for a Buffalo Music Award, and have gathered a strong base of fans and local band support.
