His IRS identification says his name is Ben Thomas, which is also the first on the list of seven names he carries with him on his rounds. He claims to be doing the standard business of an IRS agent, investigating people with tax problems, but it doesn’t take long for us to realize that he has other interests than whether the people on his list claimed any unallowed deductions. But what is he up to?



Slumdog Millionaire

The Mumbai in which the embattled romantic young hero of Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire maneuvers to survive and follow his dream of love isn’t the city in which 10 or so terrorists from neighboring Pakistan wrought terror and death late last month. Their deadly rampage was through some of the city’s high-rent neighborhoods and pricey venues where tourists and the international corporate executive set gather with India’s new burgeoning bourgeoisie.



Yes Man

When comedians famed for being over the top branch out into dramatic roles, they tend to go the opposite extreme. Performances like Jerry Lewis in Martin Scorsese’s The King of Comedy, or Adam Sandler in Spanglish can look more impressive than they are just because it’s surprising to see them not acting like monkeys on meth.
