HIDE AND SEEK (1996)—Revival of Su Friedrich’s memory film about a 12 year old girl coming to terms with her developing sexuality in the mid 1960’s. JULIET OF THE SPIRITS (Italy, 1965)—Federico Fellini’s delightful, visually inventive fantasy is a showcase for his wife, Giuiletta Masina. She plays a bored Roman housewife who finds relief from her mundane life and philandering husband through sensual escapades in the spirit realm of her subconscious. NOSTALGHIA (Italy, 1983)—Andrei Tarkovsky’s penultimate film, made after he defected from the Soviet Union, is a dreamlike story about a Russian poet on a research missionin Italy whose explorations into that country’s history make him yearn for his own homeland. PSYCHOMANIA (Great Britain, 1971)—Tongue in cheek (or is it?) thriller about a small town British biker gang convinced that Satan will grant them eternal life if they all kill themselves. Starring Nicky Henson, Mary Larkin, Beryl Reid and George Saunders, who committed suicide himself shortly after filming this. Directed by Don Sharp (Bear Island).
