A Little Reflection, Please

I’m sure this is not the first time you’ve heard this, but I need to express some concern about your Best of Buffalo contest. Given your editorial comments preceding the “People” category, I know that you are aware that there is something fundamentally not right about nominating our neighbors who are mentally ill for an award called “Weirdest Resident.”



High-Speed Cargo Trains

Your recent article about the possibility of high speed trains coming to Buffalo was hopeful and timely. However, it focused on passenger service, which, although could be a boon to the area, is small potatoes compared the economic boost that high-speed cargo trains could provide for the area.



Not Releasing Secret Papers Would Be a Mistake

Buffalo News columnist Douglas Turner’s recent, deeply disturbing defense of torture (Buffalo News, 4/27) represents a mindset that seems to be permeating the right wing, undermines the rule of law, and mirrors rationalizations used by the Fascists before World War II to torture Jews, Gypsies, and Slavs.
