Generational Theft

I read today that John McCain opposes President Obama’s stimulus package, calling it “generational theft”—huge federal deficits for years to come. How come he didn’t complain when the Bush administration was pouring untold billions of dollars into Iraq, much of which can’t even be accounted for? Surely he must consider that “generation theft,” because our great-grandchildren will certainly be paying for that one!

Tu quoque!

Brilliant! You have successfully ducked the issue by attacking the inconsistency of the man making the claim instead of the very point itself. Since politics is mere sport with nothing real at stake, you are correct to observe that McCain's lack of opposition to a trillion in discretionary war spending legitimizes the political tit-for-tat of trillions used for Keynesian stimuli.

Will the finished bill deliver the promised multipliers? Is the spending temporary, targeted, and timely? Is Obama committing the broken window fallacy?

These questions must be pushed aside or given to the egg-heads. They are of no real import to us, so long as we have unyielding faith in the brilliance of our team's leaders. McCain is a member of Team B, and we are ardent followers of Team A. Anything we may observe to compromise the legitimacy the opposing team is vastly more important than a weighty consideration of current events.

Thank you for reminding us of that, sir.
