Round 1, Week 4: Lower Town Trio vs. Stealin'
Congratulations to Autopunch! They collected the most online votes last week, which wins them a spot alongside our previous winners, Social Scientists and The Etchings, in our first live quarterfinal, which will take place Saturday, November 27, at Nietzsche’s (21+).
It’s BACK! The one and only Artvoice Battle Of Original Music (BOOM)—where original bands from our area submit their material, perchance to be chosen as one of the lucky few who then stand before you on this page, in the fiery crucible of public opinion—that you might visit boom.artvoice.com and listen to their tune.
Then, if they have what it takes to win your approval, they will collect the most online votes this week and win a coveted spot in our first live quarterfinal, which will take place Saturday, November 27, at Nietzsche’s (21+).
Over the course of four weeks, you will be introduced to eight of the best original acts that have thus far submitted a photo, an original mp3, and filled out our rigorous questionnaire. Each week, the popular online vote will decide who proceeds to the live show where four acts will square off in a no-holds-barred extravaganza of local original music.
That night at Nietzsche’s, each audience member will be given one ballot on which to cast his or her vote for his or her favorite band. At the end of the night, when the tally is completed, only one will have won the right to perform in the Artvoice BOOM Grand Finale—the battle royale, winner-take-all live blowout where one talented act will walk away with unspeakable prizes, a handsome wad of cash, and the eternal privilege to proclaim themselves Artvoice BOOM Grand Champions!
This week, we give you Social Scientists and The Great Mistake. Take a moment to meet them on this page. Cast ONE vote for the one you like best. Through the magic of the digital age, we will tabulate the voting and announce this week’s winner in next week’s print edition. hat band will win the final spot on the bill for the November 27 show (21+) — now just over two weeks away!
A word of warning however: Bands that attempt to stuff the ballot by submitting multiple votes will be rooted out using the most sophisticated intelligence software available on the black market. (Well, okay, that’s a bluff, but if you try to fool our IT guy you will be caught. Just ask the FBI…he’s that good. And if that happens, you will be disqualified with nowhere to appeal our decision.)
There’s still time for artists to enter. Just visit boom.artvoice.com. In the meantime, check out this week’s contestants, and may the best band win.

I guess "Stealin'" is just too fast to spell out their name! They got my vote...if it were 1986. That was a long time ago..back when they were "payin'" their dues 46 times over...I guess "suckin'" for that long is "payin'" your dues. Best show ever? "Just ask us..we'll be glad to talk about how great we are and how terrible you are" For the love of all things decent in music..vote for Lower Town Trio (though I haven't heard you guys yet) They are automatically a better band and better human beings.

***Lowertown trio*** is rockabilly/psychobilly mix, I have seen them for a few years now seen them play The Mohawk Place, The Diablo, and Tudor Lounge. They sound like if Elvis was on crack and red bull. I miss their old bass player Ryan Hurley. Trust me these guys rock, The drummer plays standing up not sitting down aggressive to say the least. Guitar player uses a Hollowbody guitar in the Brian Setzer fashion. Standup bass slapping !!! This band is a must check out ,I think everyone has seen the typical screaming hard rock change it up look outside the box for a change

Just for the record Stealin they are a very professional band. They have awesome originals. They are the only band in Buffalo that has the balls to write and produce great music since day one. If you don't know anything about Stealin why don't you check out their 5 original songs on the top 20 list at www.rocknrollica.com a world wide web station and their brand new cd 13 on wbny buff state college station that is #8 on the list so until you know what your talking about keep your thoughts to yourself.

Stealin is the best... Ill punch you all out!
Lynn M. 16 Nov 2010, 18:23
My vote definitely goes with Stealin' Whether it be 1986 or 2010, these guys still kick ass. You wanna rock & roll, it's time you go out & party with a band that puts on a show for the crowd and not themselves. Best band EVER :)))) Won more awards & still going. Lower town Trio, it says it right in the name - they belong in the lower part of town
"Lame Janie" 16 Nov 2010, 19:14
Here's an intelligent thought- simply listen to the 2 songs & in ALL honesty- is there any way POSSIBLE that you just aren't hearing the SHEER TALENT in "Turn Around" by STEALIN'? Go back to "Celebrity Rehab" or whatever friggin' rock you crawled from under!
Jenn L 16 Nov 2010, 19:17
it must say something when a band has been around for as Stealin has and still kicks everyones ass as they did from day 1. Stealin has never disappointed anyone that has gone out to see a good rock show. They kick ass and always will. They have my vote
MJV 16 Nov 2010, 19:19
Hey Janie Lane, (nice name by the way)How many songs have you writen? How many times have you been on the radio? How many people have you played in front of? You ever do anything creative in your life other than your clever little remarks. Till you've been there done that, shut the fuck up!
First Step 16 Nov 2010, 21:40
To all the critics out there, even though Stealin' has been around for awhile, they are probably one of the best, if not the best local band out there. Not only do they write their own music, but they still can bring "it". It's easy to sit there and hide behind your computer to knock them. Why don't you go out and see their show?
Colleen W 16 Nov 2010, 23:43
Stealin is the ultimate rock show..they have so much energy..it is amazing that they are not rocking the music awards with the big boys.. they will always have my vote..trust me if you have not been out to see them you need to do this regardless of your age..pure entertainment!!!
LMZ 17 Nov 2010, 09:50
Hey Janie Lane sounds to me like your lucky you can spell Stealin's name. Obviously you have no class. And as far as sucking, suck this
Bev L. 17 Nov 2010, 09:57
They have my vote. Stealin isn't afraid to have some diversity in the music they play. They rocked then and they rock now. Love the originals and always will. People really need to come out and experience the show they put on. And as for Janie Lane.. Who the hell are you anyway??? The fact that they are still playing shows how talented they are... but obviously your too much of a whining little bitch to realize that.
MLD 17 Nov 2010, 11:09
Lets put it this way Janie Lane is an idiot, and Stealin is by far the most talented band in WNY. Listen to there originals and come see the band before you open your mouth bitch, and then you can be the judge.
JANIE LANE II 17 Nov 2010, 13:25
DIDO!!!
Jay M 18 Nov 2010, 12:40
And Buck Quigley can lick my balls!!!
Laura 18 Nov 2010, 23:42
With all the favorable comments about Stealin, how did they possibly lose????? Think there should be a recount. For a band to be around as long as they have and STILL have an amazing following... deffinately says something about the music, and the guys playing it.
