Bygging av en backcountry ski lodge

skihytte bygges på bare seks måneder når det tok over tre måneder å fullføre nede badet? Nå plasserer prosjektet i 5250 ft høyde i den kanadiske Rocky Mountains, 90 km fra nærmeste asfalterte veien, og det er lett å tenke, Mission Impossible

I juli 2002 de fire eierne av hjørne Creek Mountain Lodges møtt en tomt på ryddet land og en haug av nesten 300 grønne gran logger, 100 av dem etter å ha blitt skrellet for hånd. Ved utgangen av desember 2002 ble eierne innbydende 24 klienter til deres nye lodge. Sengene var gjort, på stabburet var full, baren var lager og badestamp var dampende. Skravling Creek Mountain Lodges er en snowcat ski og snowboard turoperatør basert i Golden, British Columbia. Chatter Creek tilbyr full service backcountry ski opplevelser for puddersnø skiløpere og snowboardere. Middels og avanserte ski grupper er fagmessig guidet hele 130 kvadratkilometer. Km driftsområde. Den har et godt utstyrt storkjøkken, et stort tørkerom for støvler og utenfor klær, et massasjerom, et spillrom med biljardbord, en velfylt bar og et utendørs boblebad, komplett med bar. Ganske et steg opp fra Spruce Lodge!

Den Chatter Creek byggeplass vært en utfordring. Den eneste byggemateriale innen rekkevidde var grønn gran fra den omkringliggende skogen. Det var ingen sand, ingen grus, ingen sement og absolutt ingen nabolag lumberyard.

Den nærmeste byen er Golden, en 120 km kjøretur i sør. Den nærmeste asfalterte veien er 90km unna, på Donald. Tilgang fra Donald er først ved å logge veien og deretter av en grov, bløte sommeren veien som klatrer de siste 17 km. til hytta. Eierne, alle ex loggere, var forberedt på utfordringen. De hadde allerede tatt en liten Alaska stil sagbruk til området, for å bygge Spruce Lodge. Den Spruce Goose hadde blitt gjennomført etter en to år deltid innsats. Den ble bygget av 5in. x 10in. kvadrat sagtømmer av gran bjelker. Den nye hytta vil bli bygget av rundtømmer, med mye lengre og høyere vegger enn noen i Spruce Lodge, og med en mye, mye større tak.

Den Chatter Creek cat skiing virksomheten hadde vist seg så populært og gjester var så begeistret at partnerne visste at de kunne utvide til 24 klienter. Riktignok hadde de terrenget for det: 50 kvadrat miles av isbreer, alpinbakker og boller, og store skogkledde åser. De hadde allerede et godt nettverk av vinterveier for sine snowcats, et godt grunnlag for en utvidet operasjon. Disse veiene utvidet fra under hytta området, om 4900 ft høyde, til toppen av Vertebrae Glacier på like under 10.000 fot. De krysset begge sider av Chatter Creek vannskille og de mange rygger som ga tusenvis av mål med prime tre ski.

Utfordringen var å bygge den nye hytta i en kort sommer. Dette var ikke bare for å være en skalert opp Spruce Lodge, men en stor, komfortabel bygning med en pålitelig vannsystem, flere sett med avløp, et storkjøkken, brann undertrykkelse og en septiktank som ville møte alle miljøforskrifter. Kunne de gjøre det på en sommer? Økonomiske begrensninger kreves det.

Alle gjennom tidlig på våren, partnere Dale og Dan selektivt logget trærne de trenger, ved hjelp snowcats å skli dem til hytta området. Venner ble hentet inn for å hjelpe hånd skrelle logger med drawknives og peeling spuds. Disse loggene vil danne store vegger. De resterende logger skulle males for å tilveiebringe bjelker og dimensjons tømmer for innvendig utforming og den massive takkonstruksjonen.

I mellomtiden, partner Dave begravd seg i planer og kostnadsanslag og ergre seg om miljø og helse og byggeforskrifter, og stilt opp leverandører for de mekaniske systemer. Planleggingen syntes å ta alltid. Det var så mange spørsmål!

Det var klart fra begynnelsen at noe nytt utstyr som ville være nødvendig for å hjelpe til konstruksjonen. Bygningen vil ha to etasjer toppet av et stort loft plass. En kran var nødvendig for å løfte tunge stokker på plass. Andre teknikker var altfor treg. Også den eksisterende fabrikken var altfor liten og altfor treg for jobben. En mye større mer nøyaktig møllen var nødvendig.

En helt ny datastyrt Wood Mizer sagbruk ble kjøpt. Dens 45 dekk skulle håndtere de store stokker og skjærehastighet vil gi den nødvendige kapasitet. For de tunge løftene, ble en brukt 20 tonn ex army mobilkran funnet. Med en 90 ft boom, vil det gi god klaring for taket.

Å få dette utstyret til området i slutten av våren var en utfordring. Veien var fortsatt våt og boggy mange steder. Sagbruket ble fylt på en Ford F450 som ble slept av bulldoser. Med det er 6 fot. diameter dekkene man håpet at firehjulstrekk kran kunne reise på sin egen. En gravemaskin stod å hjelpe.

Det tok tre dager å gå bare 14km. Kranen ble sittende fast gang på gang. Gravemaskinen reparert veien og gravde ut kranen når sin store hjulene sank ned i gjørma. Det tilbys også en og annen slep, trekke kranen, da kjempet seg gjennom den dype gjørmen. Den lange rekken av utstyr inched sin vei opp veien til Chatter Creek byggeplass.

Å få utstyret til stedet var en utfordring, holde den i gang ville være en annen. Prosjektet avhengig av kontinuerlig drift av kranen, møllen og ærverdige gravemaskin. Sagbruket var helt ny og svært pålitelig. Men mobilkranen var et ukjent med begrensede deler tilgjengelig og gravemaskinen var en doddering geriatrisk ha hatt konstant bruk i mange år. Partnerne kunne stole på noen andre enn seg selv å holde disse maskinene er i drift.

Konstruksjonen mannskapet inkludert de fire eierne, to av deres signifikante andre, og gamle skolen venner fra nærliggende Golden. Kvinnene jobbet sammen siden de menn som opererer motorsager, fallende trær og kjører sagbruket. Fresing gikk på kontinuerlig, dag etter dag. Innlegg og bjelker, 2×6-tallet, gulvbjelker og terrassebord materialer ble alt nødvendig i store mengder.

Selv om ingen av mannskapet var ennå 30, deres dyktighet med utstyr og deres konstruksjon kunnskap var bemerkelsesverdig. De hadde utviklet sine logg bygge kompetanse på før sommeren på en liten badehus og et personale bunkhouse og nå var de overfor en umåtelig større utfordring med stramme tidspress.

Windows måtte settes inn og tak isolert. Bygningen måtte være utstyrt og gjort levelig og endeløse detaljer etterlengtede oppmerksomhet. De første kundene var å ankomme den 27. desember, på bare tre korte måneder. Nesten alt måtte gjøres av den samme lille mannskap på ca 12 arbeidere.

For det første året eller så, ville tapet forbli uferdig og bare plast dampsperre ville dekke isolasjon. Trepanel i himlinger og tak gavlene måtte vente.

Med unntak av komfyr, ville det ikke være åpen ild inne i bygningen. Dessuten finnes det ikke noen skorsteiner var til å stikke hull i taket av bygningen. Oppvarming vil bli gitt av en ekstern europeisk stil hahsa, en frittstående, selvstendig, ekstern vedfyrt ovn. Varme overføres til bygningen av en 200ft jordisk glykol loop. Varmevekslere skape varmt vann for bading, matlaging og badestamp og varm luft for konveksjon oppvarming. En 1000 liter varmtvannstank nedgravd i kryperommet fungerer som en kjøleribbe. Dette opprettholder en jevn temperatur bygningen som ilden brenner hahsa høy eller lav. Små elektriske ovner på soverommene, sammen med åpne Casement vinduer gir gjestene god kontroll på soverommet temperatur.

Den avsluttende fasen brakt nye avsporing. Store mengder av stoffer nå måtte bli brakt fra Golden. Begrenset lokal forsyning mente mange turer til Calgary på jakt etter møbler og spesielle materialer. Fire verdifulle timer tapt hver vei! Den stramt budsjett som kreves utrettelige shopping for gode kjøp.
