Third Art for Artists Holiday [Silent] Auction Supports
African American Cultural Center with art from
WNYUAC, Immigrant and Refugee Community
This Saturday, 17 Buffalo artists will offer their original work for sale to support the African American Cultural Center.

takes place from 6:30 to 9 p.m. in
the Unboxed Art Sanctuary at outside the box, in the carriage house at 1272 Delaware Avenue, Buffalo, NY 14209.
“This is envisioned as a way to support the advancement of one of Buffalo’s oldest cultural arts institutions and promote the purchase of original art
as a unique Holiday gift,” event coordinator Jessica Thorpe said.
Thorpe is the owner of outside the box, an MBWE marketing and development communications business founded in 1999. She is also a mixed-media artist who has hosted the event for the past three years.
The 2018 Art for Artists Holiday [Silent] Auction features an eclectic mix of media from the Western New York Urban Arts Collective (WNYUAC) and Buffalo’s Immigrant and Refugee Community. Offerings include: black-and-white photography by George
K. Arthur, intricately fanciful pencil drawings by Iris Kirkwood, impressionist oils by Betty Pitts-Foster,
monotype/collage by Phyllis Thompson, driftwood sculpture
by Ray Robertson of NACC, metal sculpture by Burmese artist Aye Min Thant,
and several Haitian folk art paintings brokered by Jocelyne Bonhométre .
Works by James Cooper III, Gerald Seals, Kobi Barber, Lisa Brown, Dawn Martin Berry-Walker and Karibu News publisher Rubens Mukunzi will also be up for bid – as well as several vibrant paintings by late Buffalo artist William Y. Cooper and an original oil canvas by Haitian “Father of Letters” Frankétienne.
“Original art makes a really thoughtful gift, and provides a timeless legacy of cultural wealth to pass on from one generation to the next,” Glendora Johnson-Cooper, event co-coordinator said.
Starting bids range from $50 to $2500; twenty percent of the sale of all artwork goes to the African American Cultural Center.
The donation to attend the 2018 Art for Artists Holiday [Silent] Auction on Saturday, December 1, 2018 is $25 per person and includes hors d’oeuvres and beverages. All ticket proceeds also go to the African American Cultural Center.
