Aaron Lee Tasjan is set to return with Karma for Cheap on August 31st, 2018 via New West Records.  The 10-song set is the follow up to Tasjan’s critically acclaimed 2016 New West Records debut Silver Tears which was named one of the best albums of that year by multiple outlets including NPR Music. They called it “…an embarrassment of riches in one musical package” while The Wall Street Journal stated, “The album is at once pointed and utterly enjoyable.”  Beginning today, NPR Music is hosting a full album stream of Karma For Cheap as a “First Listen.”  They call Aaron Lee Tasjan “An ace guitarist and affable music history geek,” continuing, “Karma For Cheap wears the legacies it joins on its velveteen sleeve – foremost that of The Beatles, as carried forward by Petty, Harry Nilsson, Jeff Lynne, and even Sheryl Crow (Jeff Trott, one of Crow’s main collaborators, co-produced the album, and Crow provides some background vocals)” and “Arrangements touch upon countrypolitan sounds and Twin Peaks-style reveries, all the while returning to the pop-kissed soul of old-time rock and roll.”   Hear the album in its entirety HERE.
Most people know Tasjan as one of the wittiest, most offbeat, weed-smokin’ & LSD microdosin’ Americana troubadours today, and with Karma for Cheap, he follows his restless muse into the kind of glammy, jingle-jangle, power-pop and psych-tinged sounds he hasn’t dabbled in since his younger days playing lead guitar for a late-period New York Dolls. With Karma for Cheap, Tasjan establishes himself as an artist who not only evolves over time, but isn’t afraid to risk reinventing himself from one record to the next.  He states, “I needed this album to have a sense of adventure and mystery, to feel a little shaky and dangerous at times – something that wasn’t the obvious choice in terms of what people already like about what I do.  I’ve come to realize that I’m a searcher, which means I’m going to be searching forever.”  Last week, Conan O’Brien’s Team Coco website premiered the video for first single “Heart Slows Down.”  It was directed by Joshua Britt & Neilson Hubbard of Neighborhood Apart Productions and can be seen HERE.  Tasjan also recently released the Karma For Cheap album track “The Rest Is Yet To Come,” with Rolling Stone Country saying, “Supertramp-sized prog-pop meets Supergrass-worthy slink.  The second single from this year’s Karma for Cheap, ‘The Rest Is Yet To Come’ waves its freak flag high, making room for cabaret organ solos and glammy percussive stomp along the way.  For those who boarded Tasjan’s Magical Mystery Tour years ago, back when he was playing guitar for groups like Semi Precious Weapons and the New York Dolls, this is another reminder that East Nashville’s Cosmic Cowboy rides wherever he damn well pleases.” Garden & Gun said “Since he moved to Nashville in 2013, Aaron Lee Tasjan has become Music City’s cosmic cowboy, sporting sparkly suits and a cheeky wink and grin.  But behind that lurks an astute artist bent on injecting some subversion and fun into what can often be an all-too-serious Americana scene.  He succeeds with aplomb on his sizzling third solo album, Karma For Cheap, upping the volume and splashing fuzzy guitar over Roy Orbison-esque melodies.”  Hear it Here.
Karma for Cheap will be available across digital retailers, on compact disc, standard black vinyl, and limited edition Red & Orange split colored vinyl available at Independent Retailers, and is available for pre-order via NEW WEST RECORDS.
