David Sanford’s Pittsburgh Collective is one of the most versatile big bands in the world. The group performs many different styles of music including Traditional Swing, Bebop jazz, Funk, Abstract Jazz and Contemporary Classical. The twenty members of the ensemble are comprised of an all-star collection of modern jazz and classical musicians alike. Conductor/Bandleader David Sanford composes challenging arrangements leaving room for some wild solo improvisation by his energetic sideman. The band’s personnel comes from some the best jazz and classical acts in the world such as Ran Blake, Hugh Ragin, Gunther Schuller, Fred Hersch, the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and the New Millennium Ensemble. Local Jazz drummer John Bacon Jr. will handle the drums for the concert. David Sanford’s Pittsburgh Collective is an eclectic big band not to be missed by serious music fans.
